灰烬谷 的天很黑。
乔治 把 玛特 关在房间里。 玛特 非常想 离开 乔治。 她听到外面有汽车的声音。因为她看见 汤姆 开黄色汽车，所以她 以为 汤姆 来接她了。 玛特 看错 了。她 马上 跑出房间，跑到前面的马路上。这时候 发生 了 可怕 的 事故。 黄色汽车没有 小心 开车，汽车 重重 地 撞 了 玛特。 玛特 就这样死了。
汤姆 和 尼克 坐蓝色汽车来了。 汤姆 看见 玛特 死了，他心里非常生气。 乔治 在马路旁边 大哭。 汤姆 不想帮助 乔治， 他只想 保护 自己。 他走到 乔治 面前 说：“是黄色汽车 撞 了她。那辆车是 盖茨比 的。” 汤姆 让 乔治 找错 了人。他要 乔治 去 恨 盖茨比。
尼克 回到 汤姆 的家。外面很黑。 尼克 在外面找到了 盖茨比。 盖茨比 说他要帮助 黛西。 他说是 黛西 在开车。 黛西 做错了事。因为 黛西 开车很 不小心， 所以 发生 了这个 事故。 但是 盖茨比 对 尼克 说：“我会说是我开的车。”他只想 保护 黛西。
尼克 走到房子旁边。他看着房子的大 窗户。 从 窗户 看进去，他看见 汤姆 和 黛西 坐在一起。他们在里面 小声 说话， 看起来 非常 亲密。 黛西 不想 离开 汤姆。 盖茨比 还在外面等 黛西。 他不知道 黛西 已经不要他了。
